About the Charity
Children 1st is Scotland’s national children’s charity. They have been working for 135 years, with the original and core purpose of preventing abuse and neglect by helping families and communities to keep children safe. They work alongside survivors of trauma and abuse to help them recover from the effects of adverse childhood experiences.
The Funding Process
Children 1st were awarded a 2 year grant in 2018 to fund the post of Father & Child Wellbeing Worker. In 2020 they applied for continuation funding for a 3rd year following a highly successful evaluation of the work and the impact the post holder, Niko, was having with the families he was working with.
How has the funding helped?
All the dads Niko works with have a range of complex challenges including homelessness, drug and alcohol misuse, poverty, isolation and their own experience of Adverse Childhood Experiences. Niko has achieved lasting change for the Dads and their children under the age of 3 through building a strong relationship with them and providing trusted advice.
We recently caught up with Children 1st to talk about how Cattanach have supported them. Here they are talking about the relationship between themselves and our Chief Executive, Sophie.
Summary
Cattanach accepts proposals for up to 3 years of funding but can also consider proposals for 1 or 2 years to support new work to be established. Through our evaluations process we will support organisations to learn from their work and encourage feedback into service delivery and design here.
