Funding Awards for Q4 2020
Grant awards for Q4 2020 were first discussed by the Cattanach Grants Committee in November and then confirmed by the full Board at their meeting on 3rd December 2020.
Children's Wellbeing Budget
Cattanach, alongside Carnegie Trust and Children in Scotland, have commissioned Dr Katherine Trebeck to research what a bold wellbeing children's budget, based on the first 1001 days of a child's life, might look like for Scotland.

Cattanach Thanks Two Retiring Trustees
Saying goodbye is never easy As the seasons change, there are goodbyes and, hopefully, hellos at Cattanach as well: We are saying goodbye to two of our Trustees, Rhoda Reid and Duncan McEachran. The Cattanach Board and Team extend their heartfelt thanks to Rhoda Reid and Duncan McEachran, who both retired from the Board at the Q3 2020 meeting.
1001 Day Movement Statement
In July, the Minister for Department of Health and Social Care – Andrea Leadsom MP – announced a new review into the healthy development of infants. It is hoped that this review will investigate and improve the support available to babies and their families from conception to age two. In order to do this, the government are inviting parents, volunteers and professionals to share their views through an online consultation which is running until Friday 16th October. The First 1001 Day movement has released a statement urging all members and supporters of the movement to respond to the consultation.

It has been a very busy quarter here at Cattanach HQ as we continue through our 2020 Stepping Stone strategy, focusing on key internal and external change while preparing the foundation for our 2021-2025 strategy.
Babies In Lockdown
A new report, Babies in Lockdown, has shone a light on the impact of Covid-19 on babies by listening to the voices of 5, 474 expectant and new parents of their experience of lockdown as family support systems were withdrawn.
Putting our money where our children’s mouths are: Understanding public spending on children’s wellbeing
Cattanach is excited to work with Children in Scotland and the Carnegie UK Trust on a joint project to make recommendations for a children's wellbeing budget focusing on the First 1,001 Days.
Continuation Grants Q2 2020
In Q2 2020 no new applications were considered but Trustees confirmed continuation funding for a number of grantees.
Third Sector Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Fund Announced
Scottish Government Funding for charities to help families. Mums, dads and families at risk of poor mental health during pregnancy and the early years will be able to access enhanced peer support, parenting support and perinatal counselling services, with new annual funding of up to £1 million.
